The Traveling Cyclist

It can be tough to maintain your cycling fitness when you're traveling. If you aren't staying somewhere with a gym, try these simple exercises in your hotel room or wherever you may be to keep your lower body moving and fit:

ONE LEGGED SQUATS

Work your quads with the "pistol squat". Hold one leg out in front of you, parallel to the floor, then slowly lower yourself to a full squat on the other leg. Hold on for support if necessary. To increase the effort, hold a weight (appropriate suitcase) close to your chest, or simply slow down.

LUNGES

Great for hamstrings. Again, vary the effort by holding your suitcase or varying the tempo.

ONE LEGGED CALF RAISES

Stand on a phone book or stair step. Consider the stairs also for a cardio substitute.

Safe travels!
